The design underlines the character of the place, a complex of old buildings around an internal court, making the court the center of the scheme. From this internal piazza the various functions will be accesible: libraries, public offi ces, cafeteria, media labs.
On the fi rst fl oor, an old pitched roof is removed to make space for a public green terrace accessible from the center of the court through a new dramatic stair. The sense of unfi nished of the exisiting buildings is emphasized. New access points and internal functions are provided by technolgical boxes, totally moveable and re-arrangeable according to the mutating requirements in order to provide maximum fl exibility. Externally the old surfaces are cleaned but not repainted. The contrast between old buildings and new insertions is emphasized, underlining the sense of unfi nished of the existing building, a character which is common to the whole urban area.
