AOSTA HOSPITAL

The extension of the Parini Hospital reveals the necessity to solve multiple and at different scales issues in a single operation.
The new building not only has to relates with the existing buildings in a linear and functional way, but it has to find the right relationship with the surrounding urban space too.

The project inserts the hospital into an urban void, working with its liminal condition to restore street continuity and reorganize traffic flows in response to the expanded healthcare facility. A key aspect of the intervention is the resolution of a critical junction, reimagined as a connective atrium between the existing and new buildings.
Positioned at the convergence of north–south flows, this space becomes an internal urban plaza, organizing access across multiple levels and distributing users to different hospital services. Level changes are strategically used to separate general and emergency access, as well as vehicular and pedestrian paths, ensuring clarity, intuitive navigation, and efficient circulation throughout the complex.
